[Skeleton] Mudslide Jigglers

HAPPY HALLOWEEN 2011!

Due to the Snow-Tober Storm we experienced here in the NorthEast, my pumpkin-carving-party got changed a bit! We just traveled over to J’s house with some snacks and goodies in hand. The power going out put a hamper on much of my exciting goodies I had planned on making but I still had a pumpkin hummus, buttermilk ranch, sweet pumpkin dip, and these little beauties!

The color was just right, the flavor was awesome, and they are so easily adaptable to whatever you want to make with them! I can see these guys being so cute for Winter in a Snowman (or snowflake) pan!!!

Mudslide Jigglers

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup Baileys Irish Cream
  • 1/4 cup Kahlua
  • 1/4 cup vanilla vodka
  • 2 envelopes Knox Gelatin

Put your milk into a small saucepan & sprinkle your 2 packages of Knox on top – allowing it to soak for a minute or two. Then turn your heat on very low and stir constantly for about 5 minutes until gelatin is fully disolved (this will be thick).

Then pour in your Baileys & Kahlua (stirring very well to blend it all). Finally add the vodka.

Pour the entire mixture into your desired pan. If using the adorable Wilton Skeleton Pan, make sure to spray lightly with cooking spray and then wipe most of it out & make sure it gets into those corners – just leave enough to allow it to pop out at the end. Allow to set for at least 3 hours (or even overnight) and pop out of pan or cut as soon as possible to serving as possible. This should make about 18-24 mudslide jiggler shots (it made the 15 skeleton heads and then another half dozen in a flat container)!

And I leave you with this, Today’s Question of the Day… what shapes do you think would lend themselves to awesome seasonal jigglers (and what flavor should those awesome shapes be)

Hurricane Jiggler Shots

I interrupt your regularly scheduled “tomato overload” program to bring you the latest Hurricane Irene survival information… There’s a Hurricane hitting the East Coast! I know that people are stocked up on their water, bread and milk and eggs and generators and flashlights – and that they also stocked up on the booze so they could make it through the storm! Take some of that booze and make a Hurricane right in your own house.

I present you with Hurricane Irene Jiggler Shots… may these be the only things to wiggle/jiggle/sway in your life during this storm!

Hurricane Jiggler Shots

as adapted from my favorite: Jelly Shot Test Kitchen – get it!

  • 1/2 cup passion fruit nectar (or mango/guava/etc)
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 cup grenadine
  • 1/3 cup lime juice
  • 2 1/2 packages (2 packages plus 1 teaspoon) Knox Gelatin
  • 1/2 cup white rum
  • 1/2 cup dark rum

Put  all the non-alcoholic liquids into a small saucepan & sprinkle your Knox on top – allowing it to soak for a minute or two. Then turn your heat on very low and stir constantly for about 5 minutes until gelatin is fully disolved.

Remove from heat & pour in your two kinds of rum. Pour the entire mixture into either a loaf pan or a 9×9 square pan (as long as its flat – you are pretty much ok with anything). Allow to set for at least 3 hours (or even overnight) and cut as soon as possible to serving as possible (I often just cut a few at a time when serving, and even if I cut them all – leave them in the ‘fridge to stay cool). This should make about 18-24 Hurricane Irene Survival Jiggler Shots!

And I leave you with this, today’s Question of the Day… What has the worst storm been that you have ever lived through & what ‘survival items’ did you need?

Red, White, & Blue Jiggler Shot

This post is a few weeks later than I wanted it to be – SORRY

I started making some Jello Jiggler Shots early this year with ‘Beer Jigglers’ for New Years and then some Margarita Jigglers around Memorial Day (never photographed – Ill re-make and re-do those). Every time I make Jigglers they are a big hit & so much fun. Rich “hates” Jello & Jigglers but gets excited every time that I make these because as they say “there is always room for Jello”!

I have been enjoying my new Jiggler experiments and wanted to bring something fun & festive to our neighbor’s July 4th party and thought these Red, White & Blue Jigglers were just perfect  (I also made Mudslide Jigglers – but those all went to my family, although I do need to make them again for the next time we get together with friends since they were so good)

How To…

All recipe direction are about the same, but I’ll write them out since they vary slightly. They should all be made in either a 9 x 9 pan or a loaf pan (the short square ones are easier to cut). You can also use silicone molds with a little cooking spray before to allow for easy release. Recipes in this post are from (or adapted along the same lines of) the Jelly Shot Test Kitchen Cookbook.

Red: Sangria Jigglers

  • 1 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 2.5 packages knox gelatin

Place the wine in a small saucepan & sprinkle the gelatin on top – let set for a minute or two. Turn the heat on very low and slowly dissolve the gelatin until melted, about 5 minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until everything is dissolved and mixed through. Pour into a small (9×9) square container or a loaf pan. Lets set in the refrigerator several hours or overnight (it needs at least 4 hours).

White: Banana Coconut Daiquiri

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup Rum
  • 1/3 cup Maibu Rum
  • 3/4 cup banana liqueur
  • 2 packages Knoxx

Place the milk in a small saucepan & sprinkle the gelatin on top – let set for a minute or two.

* I used 99 bananas liqueur and this was WAY too strong for my taste – please cut it down to 1/2 cup and add 1/4 cup more milk if you try this OR use a different liqueur!

Blue: Blue Hawaii

  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/4 cup vodka
  • 1/4 cup blue curacao liqueur
  • 1/4 cup rum (white OR Malibu)
  • < 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 packages Knox

Place the pineapple juice, vodka, & lemon juice in a small saucepan & sprinkle the gelatin on top – let set for a minute or two.

And I leave you with this question… What classic color OR drink combinations would be fun to make for your next gathering!?

Mudslide Jello-Jiggler Shots

I recently bought the Jelly Shot Test Kitchen’s book (which I lent out before I even made my first recipe from it – that is how excited we [me & my friends] were to have it). I could have went through this entire book and made (almost) all of these Jello Jiggler shots and have been happy!

You may remember I made Beer Jigglers for New Years (which were not a huge hit – but I would love suggestions as to how to make them better, because seriously it is a good idea, in theory). For July 4th this year I made RED, WHITE, & BLUE Jiggler Shots and also these Mudslide Jigglers.

Stained Glass Mudslide Jigglers

Instead of just making a plain mudslide though – I decided to make it a fancy “stained glass” jiggler (kinda like I made at Christmas). The taste was AWESOME and they are so easy to eat (much better than the plastic cup version of Jello Shots we are used to and that I hate since then your fingers get all gross & sticky). The only problem is that they are too easy to eat so make sure you do the math & know your limit – these things go down easy!!

They also were a bit ‘sharp’ for my taste. I am not sure if they were just ‘sharp’ since they were layered and maybe would be smoother all mixed together? Anyway, next time I would cut down on the vodka & maybe add some coffee or chocolate milk in its place. I am sure I will make them again, so when I do so I’ll be sure to update this here to let you know how it goes. (OR, you can play around and let me know how it works out)

Mudslide Jigglers

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup Baileys Irish Cream
  • 1/2 cup Kahlua
  • 1/2 cup vodka
  • 2 envelopes Knox Gelatin

Put your milk into a small saucepan & sprinkle your 2 packages of Knox on top – allowing it to soak for a minute or two. Then turn your heat on very low and stir constantly for about 5 minutes until gelatin is fully disolved (this will be thick).

Then pour in your Baileys & Kahlua (stirring very well to blend it all). Finally add the vodka (or whatever you are replacing vodka with – it you are replacing with something non-alcoholic, you can add it in with the milk before the Knox).

Pour the entire mixture into either a loaf pan or a 9×9 square pan (as long as its flat – you are pretty much ok with anything). Allow to set for a few hours (or even overnight) and cut as soon as possible to serving as possible (only take out a few at a time or serve on an iced platter so they don’t melt especially outside). This should make about 18-24 mudslide jiggler shots!

And I leave you with a Jello Question…. What is your favorite drink that you would love to see turned into Jiggler Form (I want to experiment!)

Jello shots – grown up

I found the Jelly Shot Kitchen & Food Librarian weeks ago and vowed that I wanted to figure out some fun ways to make “grown-up jello”. Now, we have all had Jell-o shots (unless you are one of my students OR friends under 21 who are reading my blog – then I know hope that you have just had regular jello!) I decided that instead of making those gooey pieces of Jello that are so hard to get out of their cup, that I had to figure out how to make JIGGLER versions of Jello!

After much (much, much, much) discussion I decided I was going to make “Chocolate Covered Strawberry Grown Up Jello” and then really go out on a whim & try to make “Beer Jigglers” for New Years! I was quite concerned about how well these were going to set up, so I did them in containers so that in case of failure, we would still be ok :-)

Beer Jigglers - consistency was awesome, but the flavor was a bit off. I think next time I will use a bit of honey to bring out more of the beer flavor since these almost tasted watered down a bit and could have been mistaken at times for a strange iced tea! SO, to make BEER JIGGLERS: combine 1 bottle beer and 2 packets of Knox gelatin. Then slowly heat this in a pot to fully activate the gelatin. Fill the mini-muffin liners (in your mini-muffin pan) with the beer jello. Once its solid (at LEAST 5 hours please – play it safe with this Jello, don’t rush it), peel them & turn upside down for your own version of Beer Jiggler Body Caps!

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Jello – the taste of these were awesome. When I un-molded in, I think that I let it in the warm water for a bit too long since it ‘melted’ a bit on the outside. Overall, this was a success. To make your CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRY JELLO take a package of Strawberry Jello & combine it with 3/4 cup boiling water. Once that is dissolved, pour in about a cup of Creme de Coco (chocolate liquor). Place into your desired serving vessel (I used a plastic bundt pan) and chill overnight. Turn out of your pan & slice (you can make this is chocolate molds or in a pan and slice or whatever you’d like to try).

EXPERIMENT & remember there is always room for Jello. Leave me some feedback here on my blog and let me know what you think, other good recipes I should try, or anything else!
